Blink and you might miss it. One of the more controversial issues from this Sunday’s “Summerslam 2017” was Randy Orton defeating Rusev in less than ten seconds. In theory this was due to time constraints but it seems that there is a bit more to it than that. We now have a few more details on the story.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by way of Wrestlinginc.com, the loss was just a way to set up the continuing feud between Rusev and Orton. It was also a way to help rehabilitate Orton after his three losses to Jidner Mahal, meaning it was much more pro-Orton than anti-Rusev. There was no mention of Orton or Rusev on “Smackdown Live” but the feud should be continuing soon.

Here’s how it all started on Sunday:

Opinion: One day I’d love to have WWE walk me through the thinking behind having someone lose in a matter of second to kick off a feud. All it makes me think is that Rusev is a dolt who can’t survive a simple attack and is spending the next few weeks (if not months) trying to make up for it. I don’t see how that’s good storytelling but it certainly seems to be something WWE is quite fond of using.
