SmackDown Live Superstar Rusev has now removed the majority of WWE references from his Twitter account, following his removal as The Undertaker’s opponent at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

The original plan for the Greatest Royal Rumble was to have Rusev take on The Undertaker in a Casket match, which involves sending the opponent into a casket and closing the lid to secure the victory.

Unfortunately, it seems WWE changed their minds, denying Rusev the match after he started getting widespread exposure from it, including a TMZ interview, to have Chris Jericho replace him.

While we are unsure at this time why WWE made the decision to remove Rusev from the match, we have heard a few theories going around. Take these with a grain of salt.

The rumors:

One of these stems from a rumor that Rusev asked for his release, which was going around prior to WrestleMania 34. The rumor had said that Rusev was added to the United States Championship match as a way of thanking Rusev for his merchandise sales, popularity and as an added incentive to keep him around.

The tweets:

Rusev took to Twitter to comment on the news of his match, as he told Undertaker to bury him softly.

After this tweet, it was announced that Jericho would replace Rusev. This led to some speculating that WWE found Rusev offensive with comments such as that, deciding to choose Jericho over him instead.

That is when the Bulgarian Superstar had the following cryptic tweet to send out:

Jericho himself would comment on the match, using the same bury terms Rusev had used.

We aren’t sure if this was Jericho’s way of saying that wasn’t the reason for Rusev being removed, or if it had any relevance to that at all, but it is worth noting.

The interview TMZ did with Rusev and Lana also had the headline “RUSEV’S GONNA RETIRE UNDERTAKER…CRUSH His Old Ass!,” even though Rusev was respectful and didn’t say that in the interview.

This was mentioned primarily by Michelle McCool, who as many wrestling fans know is the wife of The Undertaker.

It is perhaps a combination of these things or none at all. Regardless, Rusev has now changed his name on Twitter to a simple period, removed his bio, changed his location and his profile picture and photo header to artwork from “Other Versions of You.”

The movie:

The movie was actually created in 2016 and stars Lana (C.J. Perry). Here is that summary, courtesy of Motke Dapp on IMDB.

“Diggsy Ellston has been in love with Suzette Larking since he was a boy. When Suzette gets married to another man, Diggsy meets a stranger who offers him an unbelievable gift: the unusual possibility of finding another Suzette. This offering comes in the form of a key that opens doors into parallel universes. Universes where other versions of Suzette may not only exist but where one of them could even possibly love him. Sounds magical, but there’s one major catch: Once Diggsy uses the key, he can’t go back; he will forever leave everyone and everything he has ever known.”

“Diggsy’s hesitation lies in the strong bond he shares with his sister, Daphne, but he justifies his decision to leave on the belief that she wants him to move on in life. With every new universe comes a new decision: Stay or leave? Settle or keep chasing the dream of finding a Suzette who will love him? Diggsy’s journey is filled with comedy, heartbreak, adventure, and a heavy dose of fish out of water.”
