When Will Ospreay captured the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at ‘Wrestle Kingdom 12‘ last week, he inadvertently set the stage for a match unseen in years.
At the IPW UK ‘Magnificent Zeven’ show on January 17 in Milton Keynes, Ospreay will not be facing WWE U.K. Champion Pete Dunne.
What this means is that fans subscribed to IWNLive and those in attendance will witness the first WWE Champion vs. IWGP Champion match since Hulk Hogan took on Keiji Mutoh/The Great Muta.
For fans looking for competition between New Japan and WWE, look no further than this match.
Ospreay tweeted the following on his upcoming match:
How’s this. Wednesday 17th January when I take on @PeteDunneYxB it will be the first time an IWGP champion will take on a WWE champion since Hogan vs Muta. Funny story. Me & Pete weren’t even born when this match happened.
This could be a one time only thing get to it at @IPWUK— Will Ospreay • ????????? (@WillOspreay) January 8, 2018
