Several weeks ago, Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family were dismantled by a disgruntled John Cena to end “Monday Night Raw.” This was only slightly removed from his dominating loss at the hands of new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at “SummerSlam,” with Cena claiming he wanted Lesnar again at “Night of Champions.”
Rumors have circulated since there was some backstage rumblings and confusion as to why Cena had been booked so strong against a man the company had invested in building with Bray Wyatt. PWInsider has now provided some clarification.
The outlet has confirmed the majority of Cena’s actions over the past several weeks have been fueled by Vince McMahon’s booking power. According to the report, McMahon does not want Cena to be viewed as weak despite his defeat at the last pay-per-view, and wants the target audience to understand he’s “still in the fight” and not ready to quit.
This motif has reportedly been constantly drilled into the heads of WWE creative, with McMahon indeed calling all the shots regarding this program.
Editor’s Note
This should not be surprising to anyone. This seems to have been a trend with McMahon for several years now, panic booking. The real question now is whether McMahon pulls the plug on Lesnar’s title reign early?
