NXT Superstar Finn Balor set the wrestling world on fire Thursday night, when prior to his match alongside Hideo Itami with The Ascension, he debuted brand new body paint and entrance. WWE fans around the world were overwhelmingly responsive to the gimmick, and now they have a reason for more optimism.
According to a report from PWInsider, the gimmick was so successful, WWE has decided Balor will use it going forward. Originally, it had been speculated it would just be used for special events, but now it appears it will become an everyday gig.
When Balor was on the independent circuit working as Prince Devitt, he frequently painted himself. Often times, he would use characters many are familiar with, such as Venom from the Spider-Man series. However, due to copyright issues, WWE cannot use those characters with Balor’s entrances.
At “NXT Takeover: R Evolution,” Balor and Itami defeated the former NXT Tag Team Champions. It is speculated now The Ascension will be moved to the main roster, after a vignette hyping their debut airs on this week’s edition of “Friday Night Smackdown.”
WWE has posted a gallery looking at Balor’s paint on its website.
