His career was on the line, and in the big moment, he got it done.

After months of pursuit, NXT Superstar Sami Zayn defeated Adrian Neville for his first NXT Championship victory. It is Zayn’s first title in NXT and WWE. Following the match, the entire babyface portion of the NXT locker room came out and celebrated with Zayn.

Alongside Zayn was the recently-debuted Kevin Owens, who earlier in the night defeated CJ Parker in his first NXT match. The two, who have a long history together on the independent circuit, embraced his longtime foe in the ring.

After this, Neville made it to his feet. The NXT Champion of almost a year was offered a handshake by Zayn, but kicked it aside and lunged in to hug him instead. The NXT Universe went insane at this moment, giving the two a standing ovation.

Just as “Takeover” was set to go off the air, Owens returned and took out Zayn and laid him out on the outside of the ring. This will set up a feud between the two, as Owens officially turns heel.

NXT will hold its first tapings with Zayn as champion next week.

Editor’s Note

An awesome match that made for an awesome moment. Must-see if you get the replay on the network. The moment at the end was done with no commentary as well, which made it stand out.
