Former independent darling Kevin Steen, now known as Kevin Owens, has made his official NXT debut at the “NXT Takeover: R Evolution” special event. Owens had been advertised for several weeks, though the capacity of his debut was unknown.

Owens kicked off the show to chants of “Fight, Owens, Fight,” reminiscent of his chants while on the independent circuit. He received a face reaction from both the crowd and the announcers, and took in the moment as he went down the ramp.

CJ Parker then came out to go up against Owens in an impromptu debut match, in which Owens launched himself over the top rope to the joy of the NXT crowd. He would get busted open the hard way by a stiff kick from Parker, and finished the rest of the match with a bloody nose.

His finisher used to be a package piledriver, but such moves are banned in WWE. Instead, he used a toss-up powerbomb to put Parker away for the victory.

Owens still may have some involvement later in the show.

Editor’s Note

An impressive debut for Owens, and the crowd went looney for him. Great moment.
