It’s that special day of the year—WrestleMania. It’s WWE’s gala event, a combination of big wrestling matches, celebrity appearances, and a scale of production rarely seen in the sports entertainment world. As a hardcore fan, it’s tough not to be disappointed with the card going into the show, given how many dream matches we were inches away from seeing, and the stars who aren’t on the show this year. But come on, it’s WrestleMania.
Kevin Owens’ turn against Chris Jericho was obvious from the very start, but that didn’t make it any less heartbreaking when it finally happened. Y2J thought he had a best bud! They won matches together! They had a Festival of Friendship! Yet KO threw it all away. WrestleMania had them set to do battle not just over the United States Championship—but the broken pieces of Jericho’s heart.
And it was a classic “former friends” matchup, with counter after counter and an impressive array of brutal reversals. But KO took the United States Championship with his ultimate move, a Pop-Up Powerbomb to the ring apron.
