The match between Charlotte and Sasha Banks at Hell in a Cell was already set to be a historic one, as it will be the first time that women compete in what WWE likes to call its most brutal arena. According to a Facebook post from Raw GM Mick Foley, it looks like their championship match will be even bigger than that.
Foley reports with pride that Sasha Banks versus Charlotte will, in fact, be the main event of Hell in a Cell. Via his Facebook:
“Forget for a moment about Stephanie McMahon’s jumping high-five or my awkward attempt to hug the #RAW Comissioner. The biggest moment of the night for us came when the #WWE cameras were off, and Stephanie and I just looked at the #HIAC poster, realizing that for #WomensWrestling, history is upon us – as Sasha Banks and Charlotte will main event the #HIAC PPV. I am so happy for Sasha, for Charlotte, for all the women who paved the way, and all those who aspire to follow in their footsteps. It is no exaggeration to say that looking at that poster gave me chills…and they were multiplying.”
This will be the first time women have main evented a major pay-per-view, and it’s a terrific culmination to the push for serious women’s competition in WWE. Bayley and Sasha Banks were the main event of NXT Takeover: Respect in a 30-minute Iron Man match a year ago, but this is a first on the main roster.
It’s tough to imagine two women more deserving of the honor, and I can’t wait to see the match that results.
