Finn Balor was poised to make one of the greatest debuts in WWE history, earning a shot at the Universal Championship in his first night on the main roster, and capturing the title in his very first pay-per-view appearance at SummerSlam. Unfortunately things didn’t work out so well, with Finn getting injured in that same match and being forced to relinquish the title the next night.
The future superstar is on the road to recovery, however, with estimates having him back in the ring in time for WrestleMania 33. In a new interview with Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast (transcribed by Wrestling Inc), Finn discussed his Universal Championship win and even addressed the possibility of a Bullet Club reunion.
Finn’s shoulder injury prevented him from holding up the title after his victory at SummerSlam, but Sami Zayn thought Balor was trying to mitigate the crowd’s negative reaction to the look of the belt. But Finn thought that derision was directed at him.
“[Zayn] goes, ‘God, that guy’s a genius!’ Yet in reality, when the crowd were saying, I think, ‘that belt sucks,’ I was working over Seth and thought they were saying ‘Bálor sucks,’ and I said, ‘God, they turned on me fast!'”
The Demon King says a reunion with the Bullet Club is inevitable, but that day is far in the future. For now, he’s focused on his recovery.
“Obviously, there is that link and that history,” Finn says. “And I think that that’s always a possibility. But I’ve kind of got my own things to handle first when I get back. I’m sure someday that will happen, we’ll get a little B.C. revival going on, but right now, right now, I’m just worried about getting healthy, man. I haven’t thought about where I’m going to be. I just want to get back.”
