World Wrestling Entertainment is reportedly working on creating merchandise for the “Man Called Sting,” a moniker the company is likely to give former TNA and WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting. As previously reported, Sting has apparently signed a Legends deal with WWE, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that the company wants merchandise ready for his debut.
The report claims that concepts for WWE licensed Sting apparel, such as t-shirts and hoodies, are being modeled after the phrase, “A Man Called Sting,” since the company owns the intellectual property rights to it. WCW had trademarked the phrase many moons ago. According to the report, an official memo was issued to the WWE merchandise team to work on these prototypes during the week of Jan. 20.
Sting coming into the company is not talked about as high priority issue backstage. Apparently, before 2014, the closest Sting came to signing a WWE contract was right after WWE purchased WCW. He wanted the same schedule as the Undertaker, but Vince McMahon immediately refused the offer, saying that there would be no exceptions on the WWE schedule except for the Undertaker.
