There are a few possible reasons as to why WWE is placing most of its main roster on the WrestleMania XXX card. Sources tell us that the main factors forcing the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and Divas Championship Scramble Match to exist at WrestleMania XXX are monetary payoffs, and the grand event’s thirtieth anniversary.
The WWE Network is new, and it’s the route that the company is trying to get it’s Universe to watch WrestleMania XXX. That being said, due to the low cost of the Network, and many people opting to spend $9.99 on the event instead of $65.99, there will be less paper coming in for WrestleMania XXX compared to previous years.
This has made the WWE office nervous. Vince McMahon has still not addressed WrestleMania payoffs with his roster as of March 25, and this is likely due to the company going into WrestleMania XXX blind to what they may actually draw from the event. The reliability of the WWE Network’s “Live Stream” is still shaky at best, and McMahon is smart enough to not promise certain pay days to his roster. What if the Network’s streaming capabilities fail and the company has to refund 500 thousand people. That’d be a sizable chunk of money.
Another factor playing into this, and it’s likely the main reason being built up backstage, is that this is the thirtieth anniversary of the company’s premier event. WWE officials want to get as many people onto this card as this is a monumental landmark to hit with a consumer driven spectacle like WrestleMania.
This allows each superstar, which otherwise wouldn’t likely be appearing on the card, to be thrust into the Battle Royal and Divas Championship Scramble. They will at least then be awarded with exposure and the recognition of having worked the thirtieth anniversary of the Show of Shows.
