A WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match between Brock Lesnar and John Cena has been confirmed for “SummerSlam.” Cena will defend his title against Lesnar in Singles competition on Aug. 17 in Los Angeles.
The match was made official during the July 21 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” after Triple H acknowledged Lesnar as the new No. 1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As previously reported, Cena vs Lesnar has already been promoted by WWE via e-mail blast. Also, a video package promoting the match recently leaked online, further pushing that this would be the main event of WWE’s annual Summer event.
Lesnar has apparently been slated as the No. 1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for some time, as he was originally slated to face Daniel Bryan at “SummerSlam” while Bryan was still champion. “The Beast Incarnate” is also slated to compete at both “SummerSlam” and “Night Of Champions,” which means he will be working two back-to-back Pay-Per-View matches, something he’s rarely done since returning to WWE in 2012.
Rumors have been circulating that claim Lesnar is scheduled to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Cena at either “SummerSlam” or “Night Of Champions,” and will face Roman Reigns for the title at WrestleMania 31. However, all that is certain right now is that Lesnar will face off against Cena on Aug. 17 for the WWE World Heavyweight strap at “SummerSlam.”
Editor’s Note:
Now it’s official. Will Lesnar take the title and be off TV for 5 months after “Night Of Champions?” THAT’S the question.
