According to a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio’s current WWE contract expires soon. His current deal is set to expire in a couple of months, and WWE officials are reportedly not aggressively trying to keep Mysterio with the company once it does.

Mysterio is a double-edged sword for WWE. He’s one of their greatest risks in the ring, yet his likeness sells a tremendous amount of merchandise. He constantly struggles with staying healthy and hasn’t really been positioned for anything big storyline-wise since his return. According to the report, WWE would usually be trying to get Mysterio to sign a new contract at this point, but that has not happened.

Many believe that if Mysterio was to bow out of the WWE anytime soon, that he would join Mark Burnett’s AAA promotion and be featured as the top guy.
