During the Aug. 25 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” Cesaro defeated Rob Van Dam to become the No. 1 Contender for the United States Championship. Sheamus, who is the current champion, was at ringside during the bout, which saw Cesaro win with the Neutralizer.
Following the match, Cesaro grabbed the United States Championship, a title which he has previously held, away from Sheamus, and proclaimed that it would look good on him. He then proceeded to throw the title in Sheamus’ face before backpedaling away from a fight.
While it was announced that Cesaro was now the No. 1 Contender for the US strap, it was not revealed on WWE television the date of when Cesaro would be awarded his championship match. However, it is assumed that Sheamus will defend his United States Championship against Cesaro at “Night Of Champions” on Sept. 21.
So far, “Night Of Champions” only has one confirmed match on the card; a rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship featuring current champion Brock Lesnar defending against former champion John Cena. Being that the show is designed to feature every WWE title in defense by their champions, the match will likely be held off until Sept. 21.
Editor’s Note:
A “Night Of Champions” bout makes the most sense, but I want to see some good build in this feud over the next 3 weeks. PLENTY of time to make this exciting.
