Brock Lesnar defeated John Cena at “SummerSlam” on Aug. 17 to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

A title match between the two aforementioned stars wasn’t always the plan, though.

The original booking called for Daniel Bryan to defend his title against Lesnar in the main event of “SummerSlam” before a serious neck injury put him on the sidelines and forced him to relinquish his gold.

The match would succeed in bringing Bryan “back down to earth” after a series of victories stemming from his WrestleMania 30 win in New Orleans.

Management wanted Lesnar to break the hearts of the WWE Universe by having “The Beast Incarnate” destroy Bryan in a similar fashion to what ended up happening to Cena.

Plans now are for Lesnar to hold his championship until WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara. He would defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event against Roman Reigns.

Editor’s Note

A Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar match would have been insanely intriguing, even if Bryan would have been dismantled before our very eyes. “SummerSlam” would have been the perfect time to take the gold off of him anyways. He was never going to have a CM Punk-esque reign on top.
