5. Roman Reigns

Did you really think that we would have a list of superstars of the year without including “The Guy?”

A lot of people will disagree with this pick and say that I am just being a WWE mark. But, hear me out.

Entering 2016, Roman Reigns was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Although he lost it at the “Royal Rumble,” he earned his opportunity to be in the main event of WrestleMania, where he won the title back in a great match with Triple H.

Being in the main event of WrestleMania and winning the championship alone earns you a spot on the Top 5 list, but his accolades do not stop there.

He kept the title for 77 days, but lost it at “Money in the Bank” to Seth Rollins (who would lose it moments later to Dean Ambrose). After being drafted to “Monday Night Raw,” he would continuously be in the main event spotlight, earning opportunities at both the Universal Championship as well as the United States championship, which he currently holds.

Yes, he was suspended for a violation of the wellness policy and there is no doubt that it plays a factor into why he is so low on this list. But, he paid his dues, and has been punished enough for his transgressions.

It’s been quite a year for Roman Reigns, and I have a feeling that 2017 will be no different. Believe that.
