Rey Mysterio Open to a Return to WWE

It has been previously reported that Rey Mysterio could be returning to a WWE ring sooner rather than later. However, new reports are surfacing that sooner may be here before we know it

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Konnan mentioned on his podcast this week that Mysterio is open to the idea of returning home to WWE. Enhancing this idea is the fact that Mysterio is still in a contract dispute with AAA, and won’t be returning to the company until the money issues have been resolved.

There are those that are close to the situation that are saying that if the dispute is not resolved quickly, that Mysterio would be able to get out of his current Lucha Underground deal as well, leaving the door open to a return to WWE.

The big caveat that is holding this deal back is the fact that Mysterio wants to return and work a part-time schedule, as his body would not be able to work full-time like Alberto Del Rio. More importantly, WWE has someone to fill the role that Mysterio would play, in Kalisto.

While Mysterio could get a job as an ambassador with WWE, the money that he would be paid would not be near what he would be making in AAA or Lucha Underground. However, friends of Mysterio believe that he will not be with Lucha Underground much longer, and in fact will be back in WWE.

If Mysterio returns to WWE, I feel that it should be in a non-wrestling role. He could be a special attraction, or mentor to Kalisto if they wanted to use him on TV, or perhaps let him be a trainer in NXT. My guess is that he will take the money in the other promotions, but only time will tell. Either way, Mysterio is a great place to be able to do what is best for him and his family.
