Ever since it’s permanent debut on “Raw” in September of 2016, the Cruiserweight Division has given us some of the most exciting and entertaining wrestling action in WWE. What guys like Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali and others bring to the table every week is amazing, and the athleticism and showmanship displayed is of the highest quality.

In addition to being featured on “Raw,” the cruiserweights have their own show on the WWE Network, “205 Live.” Airing following “Smackdown Live” on Tuesdays, these superstars have their own platform to develop storylines, and provide us with the same great content that is seen on the “main roster” each and every week.

The addition of Enzo Amore to the mix has the potential to give it some much needed star power and legitimacy, as the reaction for this debut was quite positive:

However, a lot of people feel that there is something lacking from the division; that something makes it feel incomplete and boring. The cruiserweights don’t get the same response as the rest of the rosters on both “Raw” or “Smackdown Live,” which doesn’t make sense to me, as they are just as gifted in the ring as anyone else in professional wrestling.

What they need is leadership. A person to keep the inmates in line, and give the division a voice in the landscape of WWE.

In my opinion, the next step for growth for “205 Live,” is the addition of a General Manager.

Think about it: “Raw” has Kurt Angle, “Smackdown Live” has Daniel Bryan and even NXT has William Regal. But, who is making the matches on “205 Live?” What figurehead is holding the show together?

If “205 Live” had a General Manager, you could create the same kinds of storylines that are seen on the other shows under the WWE banner. Matches could be made, authority could be questioned, and the show could have a representative fighting for them when all of the superstars are together.

Let’s say for arguments sake that the show ends up with a GM. Who should it be? Two choices immediately spring to mind:

Dean Malenko:

A legend in the old cruiserweight division of WCW, Dean Malenko has been synonymous with wrestling greatness for 30 years. He was a brilliant ring technician, is good on the mic, and understands the business more than most. He already works for WWE in a backstage role, so why not give him an opportunity to run a division that he is incredibly familiar with?

Titus O’Neil:

Titus O’Neil has been linked to “205 Live,” ever since he signed Akira Tozawa to be a member of his “Titus Brand.” With his oozing charisma, gift of gab and accolades outside of the company, O’Neil could be a perfect spokesman for the division.

I love “205 Live.” I am a huge fan of these athletes, and what they bring to the table every week. However, if they want to be taken as seriously as the other parts of the WWE hierarchy, they need to be on the same playing field. I truly believe that a General Manager is the next step in that growth.
