It had been previously reported that Luke Harper had requested his release from WWE after 6 years of being with them. However, it had also been reported that Vince McMahon added six more months to his contract, due to the time that he had been away with a neck injury.
However, Dustin Rhodes, aka Goldust, was in fact granted his release, so that he can compete against his brother Cody at AEW’s Double or Nothing event in May.
How is this possible?
According to a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, the reason that Harper was not granted his release, while Goldust was, is because of Triple H.
Dave Meltzer said that McMahon doesn’t want to release anyone right now, but Triple H was able to talk him into releasing Goldust. However, no one is talking him into letting Harper out of his contract.

Editor’s Thoughts:
The only reason that I can think of that WWE is not letting Harper go is that they are afraid he will sign with AEW. WWE’s talent pool is so deep that if someone doesn’t want to be there, why would the company keep them? It makes no sense to me.
