It was back at WWE “SummerSlam” on Aug. 23 at the Barclays Center when actor Stephen Amell stepped inside the squared circle for the first time, teaming with Neville in a win over Stardust and King Barrett.
WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was overly critical of the bout during his recent “Steve Austin Show” podcast (transcribed by WrestlingInc.com).
In Austin’s opinion, it hurts the credibility of the company and the performers involved for qualified wrestlers to have to sell for and work with someone as untrained and unseasoned as a Hollywood actor.
“It was what it was, but I just got a hard time seeing that kid come off with that crossbody [block] on the top rope on two WWE guys down there [on the floor].”
In terms of play-by-play man Michael Cole calling the outcome embarrassing for Barrett and Stardust following their loss, Austin added the following: “So was it embarrassing? You’re damn right it was, but for the wrong reasons and the reasons [were] bad booking.”
“It was for a shoot embarrassing to those guys to have to go out there and do that with the actor guy involved, but that’s on a shoot level, so it was an embarrassment to the booking and I felt bad for those guys because they were in that role.”
