Ever since Rusev defeated Sheamus to become WWE United States Champion on Nov. 3, rumors have run rampant over the possibility of the European Championship belt being brought back for his character.
Lana, Rusev’s manager, may have spoiled that surprise on her Instagram account.
She posted the following photo with the hashtag #RAW, although she quickly deleted it over the weekend.
The British Bulldog was the first-ever WWE European Champion when he defeated Owen Hart in finals of a tournament back in 1997.
The belt was taken out of commission in 2002 when Rob Van Dam defeated Jeff Hardy to unify the European and Intercontinental titles in a Ladder match.
Rusev will defend his WWE United States Championship against Jack Swagger at “WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, Chairs…..and Stairs” on Sunday night.
Editor’s Note
Whether it was a goof on Lana’s part or not, the European championship should be brought back and put around the waist of Rusev, if only for nostalgia’s sake. I grew up watching title matches revolving around that strap, so I’d certainly love for it to make a comeback in this day and age.
