Bad News Barrett May Drop King Gimmick Following WWE “Battleground”

Bad News Barrett’s run as “King” following his 2015 King of the Ring victory may be coming to an end.

Scheduled for the WWE “Battleground” pre-show on Sunday is another one-on-one bout between Barrett and R-Truth, who have squared off with one another several times over the past few weeks.

For this match, Barrett’s “crown” will be up for grabs, meaning if Truth pulls out the victory, he will presumably snag the “King” gimmick from his opponent.

During the latest “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Dave Meltzer revealed that the name “Wade” is, for whatever reason, banned from WWE. There are also rumblings within the company of returning Barrett to his Bad News character moving forward, which could take place as early as “Battleground.”

Barrett won the 2015 King of the Ring tournament during a special event on the WWE Network back in April, defeating Dolph Ziggler, Truth and eventually Neville in the Finals to win the crown.

Has Bad News Barrett pulled a Billy Gunn with the KOTR? I figured the victory would push him back to the main event scene. I was so wrong. Losing to R-Truth is looked upon as a death sentence these days, but in Barrett’s case, it could do the total opposite, shedding him of the silly gimmick and giving him a fresh start.
