In one of the marquee matches of Crown Jewel, Braun Strowman will compete against boxing champion Tyson Fury, in one of two wrestler vs. celebrity matches of the night. Along with this, Brock Lesnar will be defending his WWE Championship against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
It is clear that Fury is getting excited about this encounter with Strowman. As reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is the first time that a major world boxing champion has worked a pro wrestling match since Muhammad Ali vs. Buddy Wolff in 1976.
In fact, Fury is so excited about his time in WWE, that he is open to return for a WrestleMania appearance, according to an interview with Express.
“That’s in Florida, isn’t it? Who knows I might make a surprise appearance on WrestleMania. It depends because I have got my own boxing stuff going on so it depends on when it falls and if I’m free or not.”
While Fury has been rigorously training for his pro wrestling match, he admitted that he has not came up with a finish yet. “No [I haven’t thought of a finishing move yet],” said Fury. “I haven’t got that far with it. We will see how it goes on the night, like I always do. I never have a game plan going into a boxing fight so I’m not going to have one going into a wrestling fight either.”
Regarding Fury’s pay, it was reported that his payout would be around $15 million, with others reports stating $12 million. However, Dave Meltzer reported in the WON that he is getting “a few million” based on his sources, and the 12 million figure is heavily exaggerated.
Tyson’s boxing rival, Deontay Wilder, also things the number is inflated.
“Why would they give that to a guy that can’t even sell out Vegas,” Wilder told The Sun. “In his first fight he sold 1,500, and the second he sold 3,500 tickets the rest he gave away, why would they give someone $15m after that?”
If an appearance at WrestleMania is something WWE is gearing towards, it would not be a surprise if WWE has Fury defeat Strowman to set up a rematch in Tampa, Florida. However, with Strowman as one of the most dominant figures in WWE, the company should be very careful with protecting him. Especially, since WWE has booked Strowman in numerous unsuccessful world title matches.
