He kind of has a point. CM Punk is one of the most controversial names in modern wrestling even though he has not been in a wrestling match in almost six months. Over those six years, a lot of wrestling fans have wanted to see him get back in the ring, meaning that he often has a microphone in front of him to talk about all things wrestling. He still has all kinds of takes on wrestling too and that makes some of what he says that much more interesting.

Punk was recently interviewed by Screen Rant as he continues to hype up his upcoming horror movie The Girl On The Third Floor. As usual, wrestling was brought up during his interview, during which Punk was asked about the battle between AEW and WWE, in particular AEW taking shots at WWE during their broadcasts. This has been the case since Double Or Nothing earlier this year and various other similar statements have been made since Dynamite went on the air.

Punk made it clear that he was not a fan of AEW making such statements and taking shots at WWE so often. Rather than talking negatively about WWE, Punk would like to see them build themselves up and focus on what they are doing. He praised various members of the AEW roster, including Cody, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, wants them to establish their own identity. Punk did make it clear that he knew the company would be asked about WWE, but AEW needs to learn to navigate the questions without being insulting.

I’d assume he didn’t like this. Check out Cody destroying a throne with a sledgehammer:

Opinion: Punk is right on the money here because at the end of the day, AEW has only been around about five months and haven’t even had fifteen shows yet. Yes they are off to an incredible start and have a lot of positive moments going for them, but they need to stay away from all of the insults. Yes WWE is not doing great at the moment, but they are the kings of the world and AEW hasn’t proven they have any kind of staying power yet. That may come later on, though it certainly isn’t there yet. Just be yourselves instead of going nuts to get somewhere in a hurry.
