On the eve of the 2014 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, which some refer to as the beginning of the “Road to WrestleMania,” there have been rumors surfacing about five of the biggest matches for the WrestleMania XXX pay-per-view. The 30th anniversary of wrestling’s grand spectacle will air live from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La.
According to PWInsider, the following are the five top matches at WrestleMania XXX:
Batista vs. Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker
Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena
CM Punk vs. Triple H
Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
Since Batista’s return was announced, there has been speculation that he will challenge Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. If Batista does indeed win the 30-man Royal Rumble, those will likely be the first steps towards that match.
Rumors of Brock Lesnar facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania have been in the air since Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012. In October of 2013, the match was said to be all but confirmed. However, quickly into the New Year, concern reportedly set in regarding a match between the two.
Additionally, Bray Wyatt and John Cena squaring off at the pay-per-view has also been previously reported, most recently in late December of 2013. PWInsider reports that WWE wanted to have Hogan and Cena involved in a match together, but due to Hulk Hogan not being cleared for physical work by WWE doctors, the plans were called off.
CM Punk vs. Triple H was also rumored to occur at the granddaddy of them all back in early December of 2013. The match may launch another “Summer of Punk,” which may lead to CM Punk challenging for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship down the road.
Finally, a WrestleMania rematch between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan was first rumored yesterday. As we previously reported on that day, the match is said to be a “lock.” Although, plans may change for not only this match but also the four other matches previously mentioned.
