Since coming to WWE in January of this year, AJ Styles has been in the ring with virtually every big name on the roster, with one exception; Randy Orton.
During an interview on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast prior to WrestleMania 32, Styles named Orton as his dream opponent, and since then, he’s continued to express interest in working with the current Wyatt Family member.
Styles vs. Orton is one of the biggest matches that WWE can do at the moment, but, will it happen anytime soon? On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer weighed in on if the dream match will happen at some point in the near future.
“Yeah, they should really promote the hell out of [Styles vs Orton] when they finally get to it,” said Meltzer. “I don’t think it’s gonna be that soon though, unless they turn AJ babyface. I guess they could turn Orton babyface, but the feeling is [an Orton turn] isn’t gonna be so quick after all.”

It’s probably pretty safe to assume that WWE will eventually get to Styles vs. Orton at some point in 2017, unless one of them suffers a significant injury before they’re able to. But, while the match is definitely a WrestleMania caliber match, it probably won’t happen there, at least not this year, as Orton will probably be working with Bray Wyatt in some form, and nobody really knows what’s in store for Styles at the event.
