News broke earlier this week that Mauro Ranallo will be returning to WWE via NXT. Ranallo, who joined WWE last year, parted ways with the company a few months ago due to having issues with his broadcast partner John “Bradshaw” Layfield, and WWE chairman Vince McMahon.
On Friday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer broke down why Mauro decided to come back to the company via NXT.
“They were trying to get him back essentially when he left,” said Meltzer regarding Mauro Ranallo’s WWE departure and return. “It’s been a weird situation because, it’s like, at times, it looked like they were in talks for him to come back and then they stalled for a while. Then, in the last couple of weeks, it really picked up.
“Obviously he’s doing NXT, and, you know, you could put the dots together, and if you don’t want to I’ll put them together for you. The key is that he’s on a show that most of the people that run WWE production don’t go to. So, that’s the key right there. So, he’s in a different world, working the Orlando shows, and the Takeovers and not the high-pressure shows so to speak.”
Mauro Ranallo will join Nigel McguInness and Percy Watson on the NXT announce team. He’s already been a part of several NXT tapings from earlier in the week, so we’ll probably be hearing him call matches on the WWE Network in the near future.
