It’s still hard to believe that Jinder Mahal will challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of next month’s Backlash show. But, at the very least, fans should appreciate the fact that WWE did something that no one saw coming, even though it might not end up being the smartest move.

So, why is Jinder getting a title shot out of nowhere? Well, there could be a couple of reasons why according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The first reason could be that this whole thing was earmarked for Rusev, who is currently out of action with an injury. But, the biggest reason is that, due to the structure of their business, they can pretty much do anything because they don’t have to worry about selling pay-per-views anymore.

“One of the things about WWE right now is that, because of the way their business is structured, [they] can almost do anything. You’re almost immune to bad booking because you just are. It’s like, the business, it’s gonna be at a certain level. Like, even if you have the best booked WrestleMania, it’s still gonna be WrestleMania. And now it’s after WrestleMania, so it’s gonna be the let down after WrestleMania no matter what they do. So, unless they bring back somebody from the past, it kinda doesn’t matter what they do, it just is what it is.”
