In the months leading up to Wrestlemania 32, there were a lot of rumors that WWE creative was planning Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship.
That was well known here since there were also reports about Chris Jericho turning heel before Wrestlemania 32. The latter turned out to be true, and we may still see Ambrose vs. Jericho for Payback and maybe beyond.
However, Ambrose faced Brock Lesnar in a “No Holds Barred” match on the grandest stage of them all. Y2J also faced AJ Styles at Wrestlemania and got a surprising win that people weren’t happy about until the next night on Raw.
It’s now coming to light that WWE had specific plans for Ambrose vs. Jericho at Wrestlemania, but they nixed those plans for a number of reasons.
The first reason being the momentum Ambrose received after the “Royal Rumble” and his feud with The Beast Incarnate seemed like a more natural feud at the time despite fans dissatisfaction with the match at Mania.
Another factor as AJ Styles coming into the company and starting the feud with Jericho that developed such an interesting rivalry that WWE couldn’t resist having that match on the grandest stage of them all.
A feud between The Lunatic Fringe and Y2J is always going to be interesting, and now they’ll have a nice face vs. heel dynamic that will create a good feud for one PPV or maybe multiple depending on the fans.
