Paige and the WWE have received some backlash for bringing up Charlotte’s deceased brother, Reid Fliehr on this week’s Monday Night Raw. The Nature Boy, Ric Flair has given his thoughts on the matter as well.
After four days, WWE felt that due to the response of the angle, it was necessary to release the following statement:
Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves. Notwithstanding that, WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming.
According to Wrestlezone, there is no way the idea to use her brother’s name and death was Charlotte’s idea. The WWE source the site spoke with had the following to say:
“No matter what they say, there’s no way that idea came from Ashley Fliehr. NO WAY. That’s a fact.”
WWE’s statement just said that they had the approval of the performers to do the angle. That’s fairly obvious since they had to perform the angle for it to create a stir in the first place.
However, WWE did take responsibility for the segment. Ultimately, WWE did a good thing for Charlotte and they created a lot of debate for Sunday’s “Survivor Series”. WWE will be willing to accept any criticism.
