This Sunday at “Survivor Series”, Charlotte will defend the WWE Divas Championship against Paige. Their rivalry in my opinion was stagnant for the majority of the build until this Monday when Paige cut a scathing promo on Charlotte during the “Contract Signing” referencing her deceased little brother, Reid Flair.

Paige has got some backlash from her words on Monday from some of her peers, the Fleihr family, and from The Nature Boy himself.

Many people are concerned that the angle and Paige went over the line. Maybe, it wasn’t such a good idea to expose the dirty laundry of the Flair family on Monday Night Raw for the benefit of WWE television. However, I think it was a necessary evil that helps both performers and creates a lot of intrigue for “Survivor Series”.

Paige would have never gotten the “okay” to mention Reid Flair if it hadn’t been approved by both Charlotte and WWE. According to the Inquisitr, Charlotte approved the idea, so no one’s feelings were hurt.

Therefore, it was a conscious decision to mention Reid and WWE saved the “Contract Signing” for the main event segment to ensure the rivalry was elevated by bringing the death of Reid to light on WWE TV.

In my opinion, WWE did something that needed to be done to create depth for Charlotte to connect with the WWE Universe and for Paige to get genuine anger from the fans to further establish her latest heel run.

It’s been made apparent since Charlotte was in NXT that she is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. She’s never tried to hide it. In fact, during Raw’s segment, she explained some of the struggles she had to face by being born a Flair. Charlotte is the one who brought up her brother’s death, not Paige.

I’m a fan of Charlotte because she is wrestling royalty and she’s proven her skills in the ring during her time in NXT. She’s earned my admiration, but much of the WWE Universe doesn’t feel the same way.

I think it that part of the WWE Universe may know Ric Flair and respect his legacy in wrestling enough to accept his daughter as a WWE competitor and the Divas Champion, but they may not be familiar with some of the issues that the Flair family has endured over the years.

Was it questionable for WWE to exploit the death of her brother to gain momentum for Sunday’s title match? A lot of people think so, but wrestling has thrived on creating controversy by doing angles exactly like this one. In fact, there have been many angles in WWE history that are much worse than anything Paige said on Raw.

The way I’m looking at this is WWE got the approval from Charlotte, and she proved it because she knew that eventually it was going to come out. If it happens earlier in her career, it’s not hidden, and it can not only be used to build Charlotte vs. Paige, but it can generate a lot of sympathy for Charlotte in WWE.

She’s endured real pain and a real loss to fulfill the dream of her brother and become a world champion just like her father. That’s going to make her stand out just as much as her ties to the Flair legacy. Now that it’s out there, Charlotte can win on Sunday and bring emotion to her character to connect with the WWE Universe.

Of course, there will be some backlash before Sunday. In a few weeks, no one is going to be thinking about this issue and Charlotte will be a better face for it and Paige will be more over as a heel. Everyone wins in this scenario.

The question now is if WWE wants to continue the Charlotte vs. Paige feud or not. I think the feud has legs, but if WWE wants to move on, they have the ability to do it now with a stronger Divas Champion.
