This year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament has been the victim of bad luck. There have been three injuries to top teams that have thwarted a lot of the momentum of the tournament despite NXT’s tag team division being better than it ever has been.
However, it’s taken weeks to decide, but TM-61 will face the Authors of Pain in the finals of the tournament at NXT Takeover: Toronto. Either team could win the match, but the former could use the victory so much more because it means a lot more to them.
I thought Finn Balor and Samoa Joe winning the Dusty Rhodes Classic last year was a big mistake. I thought there were other ways to push Balor vs. Joe, but it’s not as if their rivalry wasn’t done perfectly thereafter. This year is a different and new opportunity.
The Authors of Pain have improved a great deal over the past few months. Paul Ellering has done strong work and they are going to dominate NXT for the foreseeable future.
However, they can do all of that without winning the Dusty Rhodes Classic. The Revival lost in the semifinals and look what they’ve accomplished. Let TM-61 have the bragging rights and suddenly NXT has two new tag teams with momentum instead of just one.
Who do you think deserves to win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic?
