Simply put, WWE could do a much better job booking Kevin Owens as the WWE Universal Champion. He’s yet to win a match on his own, which is a problem that is only going to get bigger the more it happens.

He won the Universal Championship thanks to Triple H. He defeated Roman Reigns due to interference from Rusev. Last night at “Clash of Champions,” he defeated Seth Rollins after help from Chris Jericho.

I feel like it isn’t necessary to explain why a heel needs to be able to win on his own. You think Charlotte is so universally hated as a heel because she needs help or to cheat every title defense? The fact is that she can do both, which is exactly why she has so much momentum. Kevin Owens needs the same thing.

A first title reign is rarely fantastic for a heel. The cowardly heel run is a WWE classic, but it’s become dated because clean wins for a heel are much more effective than winning by any means necessary.

The truth is there is nothing worse than a top heel telling you how good he is and having the WWE Universe have to admit that he’s right. That’s true heel heat, which is something Owens is more capable of carrying.
