Okay, so WWE has been booking Brian Kendrick, who is meant to be a heel, against TJ Perkins to build the WWE Cruiserweight title. Meanwhile, they’re pushing Rich Swann and are high on Tony Nese. On paper, all of that is really cool.

But last night, WWE booked Kendrick lose to Swann clean and then actually beg for TJP to drop the title to him at “Hell in a Cell” because it may be his last chance. I understand what WWE is trying to do, but why do they need to make him look pathetic to do it?

Brian Kendrick is a very good wrestler. The “I’ll do anything” attitude is very interesting, but he’s supposed to be the heel here. Why is he trying to get sympathy from the WWE fans when he should be putting over Perkins as the Cruiserweight Champion?

Swann beating Kendrick was designed to send the latter into desperation mode, which is why he asked for the title later. However, Kendrick should have beaten Swann by cheating because he can’t afford to lose. It tells the exact same story, but in a better way.

For me, this is the difference between short-term booking and long-term booking. Their way, it’s going to be difficult to push Kendrick if he doesn’t win the title at “Hell in a Cell.” It actually forces the title change. I’m just not sure what WWE is doing here.
