I’ve thought about this all week.
Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins was a fantastic idea. It was the perfect place and the perfect opponent for Rollins to drop the championship. However, Rollins’ injury destroyed that opportunity. Now, Reigns is being rumored for a heel turn similar to the one his cousin, The Rock was a part of at “Survivor Series” 1998.
On Monday Night Raw this week, Triple H offered Reigns the spot that Rollins’ vacated. The way The Rock’s turn went is he was becoming the main protagonist against Vince McMahon’s authority.
After Raw, it seems WWE is building Reigns to be the main protagonist against The Authority. If that’s complete with a heel turn over someone like Dean Ambrose, it’s gone full circle for Reigns just like it did seventeen years ago.
It’s an old trick for a new generation. The heel turn would most likely work, but I’m looking at it a little differently after it was revealed that WWE is building towards John Cena vs. Roman Reigns for Wrestlemania 32.

Let me get this straight. Earlier this year, the fans revolted against Roman Reigns becoming WWE Champion at Wrestlemania 31 because he was being “forced down their throats”. WWE went with Rollins instead, and that worked out well for everyone until, last week’s injury.
Meanwhile, Reigns has had a great year as a face and just came off a phenomenal feud with Bray Wyatt that lasted over four months. He is ready for the WWE title now and “Survivor Series” was to be his coronation.
Right now, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, and Seth Rollins are all off of WWE television. That’s three faces and the biggest heel in the company all off television for one reason or another. How is the solution to turn the WWE’s future face of the company heel at the perfect time to hitch their wagon to him?
Let’s play this out: Reigns turns heel and joins The Authority at the expense of Ambrose or on his own accord. For the next few months, Ambrose vs. Reigns is the major feud on the way to Wrestlemania.
Reigns won’t lose the title because then he loses his credibility as a heel but does WWE have the confidence in Ambrose to the main event with Reigns? WWE will choose John Cena to win the Royal Rumble and face Reigns at Wrestlemania. So, WWE built up Reigns and gave him all this development just to drop the title to Cena?
I don’t see the value in doing that to Reigns. Especially, when WWE set up the angle perfectly for someone else to turn heel and join The Authority. Reigns turned down the opportunity, so it only makes sense for someone else to capitalize on it and who is better for that than Dean Ambrose?
Knowing WWE logic, Reigns will win clean, and there won’t be any swerve. That’s fine, but WWE has found themselves in an odd situation where they need to do something big. The product is asking for something big.
Most likely, Sheamus will cash in Money in the Bank. Now is a good time for that too, but WWE has a great opportunity to do a wide variety of things at “Survivor Series”. It would be a shame to play it safe.
I just don’t think Reigns is the guy to make a huge character change. I think it’s time for someone else to step up to the higher level. Reigns can have his moment at Wrestlemania. Let someone else have theirs now.
