There are certain names in this industry like any other that hold a certain amount of weight. Flair, Orton, and Rhodes are a few of those names that command immediate respect.
In the case of the latter, Cody Rhodes has been using the wrestling name outside of WWE, which is a good thing. The only issue is WWE owns the rights to the name, so it is creating some problems for both parties.
It was reported yesterday that WWE was beginning to crack down more seriously on Cody for using the “Rhodes” surname. For example, his appearance at PWG’s “Batte of Los Angeles” will read “Cody R.”
However, CageSideSeats.com is reporting that Cody is currently negotiating the rights to use the “Rhodes” name outside of WWE, but the terms of any such agreement haven’t been leaked as of this writing.
Cody is set to start working with Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling soon, which is why this issue needs to be settled because he can’t use the name on television in either ROH or TNA as long as WWE has the rights.
Do you think it will be a good thing for Cody to use the “Rhodes” name outside of WWE?
