On Sunday night at “Backlash,” Dean Ambrose will defend the WWE Championship against AJ Styles in a match that could truly go either way with either man winning.
A vast majority of people are thinking it would be an ideal time for a title chance, and AJ Styles is on such a hot streak after defeating John Cena at “Summerslam” that him walking out of “Backlash” without the WWE title seems like a mistake.
According to a recent report from Sportskeeda.com, this week’s edition of SmackDown had the lowest rating for the show since the brand extension.
A lot of people are pointing the finger at Ambrose since he is the champion, but the main event segment had both Dean and Styles finishing the show, so shouldn’t they share the blame?
Regardless, that may be enough to turn the tide in Styles favor for WWE officials to ride his current wave of momentum into the return of Cena to SmackDown.
The only issue is Ambrose being cast aside for John Cena doesn’t make him look strong. In fact, it makes him look like a transitional champion. WWE will have to protect Ambrose through all of this no matter what.
