I don’t think that this news will come as a shock to most people.

WWE.com released the following statement today, confirming the release of Alberto Del Rio:

WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.

It had been previously reported that Del Rio had given WWE notice that he was leaving the company about 60 days ago. The reason for this is because he was unhappy with his position, and that he was promised certain things upon his return, which never came to fruition.

He is currently scheduled to hold a press conference today to further comment on his release, as well as the violation of the wellness policy that led to his 30-day suspension.

We will continue to monitor the situation with his real-life girlfriend, Paige, who is also rumored to be leaving WWE in the near future.

Editor’s Note:

As mentioned, this should not come as a surprise to anybody. Ever since Del Rio made his return to the company at “Hell in a Cell” last year, he was put in gimmicks that did not work, and did not make full use of his skill set. I’m certain we will see him in another promotion in the future, where he will do great work and make a great name for himself.
