Sheamus is the new WWE Champion.

Last night at “Survivor Series”, Roman Reigns became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Dean Ambrose in the WWE title tournament finals. In a storm of confetti, Triple H came to the ring and congratulated Reigns with a handshake but was met with a Spear instead.

But that opening gave Sheamus the opportunity to cash in the Money in the Bank contract and take the WWE title away from Roman with support from The Game. Now, Reigns is right where he started earlier this year.

Even though the so many fans saw it coming and it was rumored for weeks, WWE didn’t officially make the decision for Sheamus to cash in his Money in the Bank contract until a few hours before the “Survivor Series” event began.

Dave Meltzer reported that WWE was going back and forth on the decision for Sheamus to cash in before ultimately making the decision to have Sheamus cash-in and become the WWE Champion last night.

The title win for Sheamus accomplishes two things in WWE’s mind. First, Reigns becoming the champion for only a few minutes before losing it to Sheamus gives his character sympathy of always being so close before having the title taken away. The second is a ton of heel heat for Sheamus, especially if he joins The Authority.
