The “Cruiserweight Classic” was such a success because of the talent pool involved in the tournament and the in-ring work was so radically different than anything else WWE is putting out right now.
Bringing the cruiserweights to Raw was a fantastic idea to bring in a lot more talent, give exposure to fresh faces, and provide the three hours of Raw television with radically more exciting and different in-ring work.
Unfortunately, WWE officials may be hitting the break a little bit on Raw’s Cruiserweight Division before it ever really gets off the ground. It’s only been one week, but WWE is already making some changes.
According to CageSideSeats.com, the powers that be want to “tone down” the cruiserweights on Raw so they aren’t doing flips and huge spots. Simply put, that’s a huge mistake if it’s true.
What makes the Cruiserweight Division so interesting is that the matches are high flying and exciting, which makes them so positively different than anything else on WWE programming. Raw needs that excitement.
On Sunday, TJ Perkins will defend the Cruiserweight Championship against Brian Kendrick at “Clash of Champions.” The match will be a big statement in how WWE is planning to book the cruiserweights on Raw.
