It was reported yesterday that the former United States Champion Alberto Del Rio is suffering from a lower back injury. It was reportedly unclear where the injury took place and how long Del Rio would be out of action.

Del Rio didn’t wrestle on this week’s Monday Night Raw or Smackdown. He’s scheduled for WWE live events this weekend, but it’s unlikely he will be wrestling this weekend either.

According to an update from the Wrestling Observer, it’s believed that Del Rio suffered the back injury because of a vertical suplex from Brock Lesnar during the “Royal Rumble” match this past Sunday night.

Lesnar has been accused of being very unsafe in the ring, but this is the first time it’s been made public that someone has been put out of action by him.

Alberto Del Rio will be evaluated again at Raw on Monday night in Birmingham, Alabama. His status is going to be much clearer on Monday, and he may even wrestle as soon as that night if his back checks out.

WWE is reportedly still planning one more round in the feud between Del Rio and Kalisto for the United States Championship. He injury hasn’t been rumored to be serious enough for him to miss significant time, so Del Rio is very likely to have that match with Kalisto at “Fastlane.”
