6. Real Life Leaking into WWE Storylines
This is a real problem. It’s understandable for WWE to acknowledge it and send a congratulations, but in the context of the WWE Universe, they were still pushing Summer/Rusev and probably would be pushing Lana and Ziggler if she hadn’t gotten hurt. Why did they change plans just because something happened behind the scenes?
Earlier this month, Total Divas fabricated a Ziggler/Nikki Bella romance, and no one bats an eye. John Cena didn’t cut a promo on Raw acknowledging his relationship and trying to save it. In their real lives, Lana and Rusev get happily engaged and WWE needs to expose that on television?
If something happens in real life, why does that have to transition to television because TMZ ran a true story? Where’s the creativity? If WWE really wanted to put Lana and Rusev back together, they can do that. Make it a storyline; don’t just say, “Oh, they’re together in real life” and break kayfabe. That’s just lazy.
