The speculation for CM Punk’s UFC debut has been extremely high ever since he signed at the end of 2014. It took a long time to find Punk his first opponent, but now that he has, the speculation is at an apex.

Punk recently did an interview with Yahoo Sports and said the following about Mickey Gall and how seriously he is taking the fight. You can read the full interview right here. Below are the highlights:

Punk comments on Mickey Gall’s challenge?

“I like it. I definitely like it. He’s a feasible opponent. And everybody should call me out. I’m like a bizarre lottery ticket. He didn’t really trash talk. I know he’s going to, but he seems like a nice kid.”

How serious is Punk taking his UFC career?

“Believe me, I have done more interviews in my life than any man should ever have to do. I don’t like talking about it. I’m doing this because I want to fight, because I love the sport and I want to see where I can go with it. Talking can get tedious, but I understand its importance and that we have to promote the fights.

But I’m 100 percent serious about this. I wouldn’t devote this much of my life and have gone through all of this for a little bit of publicity. I can get publicity a lot more easily than I can by training to fight. I’m fighting because I love to fight and compete. When you get right down to it, that’s what this is all about.”

On the other side of The Octagon, Mickey Gall needs to get through Mike Jackson at UFC 196 before he can even get to CM Punk later this year. He’s become a much bigger name, and if he’s able to fight Punk, he could potentially become a household name for UFC.

Gall recently spoke with The Sun about the possible fight with CM Punk and he said the following about it:

What do you think about Punk leaving wrestling for MMA?

“I think it’s a ballsy move. I respect him, he’s made himself a superstar in professional wrestling. He’s obviously a special guy. But I think he’s coming into MMA and against any MMA fighter he’s gonna be in trouble – but especially in trouble with me.”

If you fight Punk at UFC 196, what are your thoughts about the outcome?

“He’s little bit of a mystery. I know he’s training out of a great camp with Roufusport, which is a phenomenal place to be.

I’m gonna prepare for him like he’s the best fighter in the world, I’m gonna train my butt off, that’s how I always go into every fight. I think he’s gonna be used to the lights, used to the big stage – he did WrestleManias and stuff, I’m sure. But when they lock that cage door and I’m in there coming at him looking to kill him I think that’s gonna really fare well for me.

I think I’m gonna hit him and I’m gonna hurt him early.”
