There’s one you probably didn’t see coming. Independent wrestling is an interesting place as it features everything from traditional wrestling to non-wrestling content like death matches to gimmick wrestling in the middle. Some of these people are rather happy with staying on the independent scene and there’s nothing wrong with that. Others want to make it to WWE, but sometimes WWE goes after some surprising choices.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is interested in bringing Joey Ryan in to NXT. The deal would see Ryan work for the company for a few years and then move into a coaching role. Ryan is not expected to take the deal, as he is thirty nine years old and makes more on the independent scene than most NXT wrestlers make on a developmental contract. Instead, he is expected to wind up in AEW, or at least be affiliated with them.
Instead of his usual antics, we’ll go with something else. Check out Ryan in Impact Wrestling:
Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised at Ryan turning the offer down as he’s one of the more unique guys in all of wrestling. What he does would never happen on WWE TV in any form and as mentioned, there is no reason to have him move to NXT and lose money as a result. Let him do his thing elsewhere and see where it can go. Ryan has a success outside of WWE so let him do his thing and be a star elsewhere.
