What could have been. WrestleMania has been around for over thirty five years and that means there have been a lot of different things taking place. It becomes harder and harder to come up with something that has never been seen before, but when a show has been around for that long, it is possible to do something that has been done before one more time. That was almost the case this year.
As the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania is going to have almost everything of value in the company on the line. This means a lot of title matches and that means WWE needs a lot of different ways to get things set the matches up. There are a few different ways to have a match on the show already and a fresh one was added this week. It just isn’t what was originally planned.
This week on Monday Night Raw, a Tag Team Turmoil match was announced for night one of WrestleMania, with the winning team receiving a Women’s Tag Team Title shot on night two. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, the original plans for the title match would have included the annual Women’s Battle Royal on night one. The final two women would have then received the title shot on night two. This idea was previously used at WrestleMania 15 when Test and D’Lo Brown won a battle royal to earn a Tag Team Titles hot against Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett. There is no word on why the change was made.
Original idea prior to the Women’s Tag Team Turmoil match being decided on was to have the annual Women’s Battle Royal where the final 2 would be “winners” & form a tag team the next night. Much like the WM 15 Battle Royal that Test & D’Lo won, then lost later to Owen & Jarrett.

This could be interesting. Check out how the match was set up and what was done before:
Opinion: This is a fresh enough idea and something that could wind up working out well for everyone involved. I’m not sure why the idea was changed but maybe WWE thinks it is a better idea to have a regular team win a tag team based match rather than a battle royal. It is the kind of thing that can give the title a bit more legitimacy and that is always a good thing.
