It’s better than nothing. One of the biggest changes that has taken place as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic is the shutdown of so many promotions. This has been the case around the world, including both the United States and several other countries. One of these places is the United Kingdom, which means there has been no NXT UK in a rather long while. It is not clear when things will be back to normal, but WWE certainly seems to be making plans.

In a situation like this, where there are limited rosters available, one of the best things that can be done is to run a tournament. It allows multiple wrestlers to work in a row, giving you some different options but also being able to structure things further in advance. At the same time, fans seem to like the concept, meaning that they might be having something nice to look forward to in the future.

According to Wrestlinginc.com, WWE has filed for a new trademark of “NXT UK Heritage Cup”. The trademark application suggests that the name is for an upcoming wrestling show or competition, though there are no details of when anything might take place. NXT UK has not run a new regular show since April 2 and it is not clear when they will be allowed to continue taping events.

NXT UK has a nice history of its own. Check out some of the things they have done in the past:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m a bit surprised by any of this and that’s a good thing. NXT UK has always been about setting up simple concepts and then running with them, which is a smart move all around. Running a tournament should work out well enough for everyone involved and it’s a great way to get people in the ring and then have them eliminated, thereby limiting the amount of people around in a situation like this.
