What a strange request. You’ve probably heard quite a bit about the massive set of WWE releases back on April 15. The company let several wrestlers go in the span of a few days, with the roster looking far different than it did just a few months ago. Some of these were more surprising than others, but WWE didn’t seem to think that letting one wrestler go was that big of a deal.
One of the more prominently released names was Matthew Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, who had been in WWE for well over ten years. Even though he hadn’t been doing as much lately, Cardona’s job status seemed fairly secure. That didn’t wind up being the case though and Cardona left the company. Despite releasing him, WWE didn’t seem to mind about asking him for a favor.
On his Major Wrestling Figure podcast, Cardona talked about WWE texting his fiance, and current WWE employee, Chelsea Green, about using their pool to film an Otis and Mandy Rose segment for SmackDown. Cardona talked about how angry it made him as WWE was asking his fiance after releasing him from his contract. Later, the Miz and John Morrison were visiting him and brought Otis with them, which Cardona thought was a rib on him, though it turned out to be a coincidence.
Cardona had a long run in WWE. Check out some of his time with the company:
Opinion: Can you blame Cardona for being annoyed by this? The company releases him in April and they’re already asking he and his fiance for a favor in May? That’s a very strange way of going about things and I can’t say I’m surprised by WWE doing just that. They have a weird way of thinking, and letting a wrestler go during a global pandemic and then asking him for something fits them well.
Should Ryder have been released? Where will he wind up? Let us know in the comments below.
