That would be a change for WWE. It is safe to say that, like almost everyone else right now, WWE is in uncharged waters. It isn’t clear when things are going to get back to normal and while they may be improving a bit, we are still a long way off from where things were before. With that amount of change comes a need for something stable, which might not be at the top of the card right now.

Back at WrestleMania 36, Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar to become the new WWE Champion. This is quite the accomplishment for anyone and to win your first World Title in the company in the main event of the biggest show of the year makes it even better. McIntyre has been thrown into the deep water in a hurry though, as his entire reign has taken place in front of no fans. The fans will be back someday, but McIntyre might not have the title until then.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the reasons that Monday Night Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman put MVP together with Bobby Lashley was for MVP to manage a World Champion. This would suggest that Lashley may be defeating McIntyre for the title at Backlash. Lashley has never been a World Champion in WWE, but was a multiple time World Champion in Impact Wrestling.

It’s an interesting possibility. Check out how the story has gone so far:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could go either way. WWE has built up Lashley for a long time now but I can’t imagine McIntyre losing the title just over two months after winning it in the first place. It wouldn’t shock me to see Lashley win the title but then drop it back to McIntyre sooner or later. I’m not sure if that’s going to be enough to make him a bigger star, but it’s certainly a story.

What do you expect at Backlash? Will Lashley ever be WWE Champion? Let us know in the comments below.
