This Is Worth Watching. See WWE’s Tribute To Mean Gene Okerlund.

So long and farewell. Last week, the wrestling world lost Gene Okerlund in a rather surprising story. Okerlund was a mainstay of the wrestling world for the better part of twenty years and is considered quite possibly the best interviewer of all time. His death was felt throughout wrestling with all kinds of people sending out tributes. The big one to come was on Monday Night Raw and it was special.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Hulk Hogan made his first appearance on the show in several years to pay tribute to Okerlund. Hogan introduced a video tribute and made some comments on Okerlund, before cutting a promo in his old voice, the likes of which he made with Okerlund for years. WWE has released this in two different parts, with Hogan’s tribute separate from the video.

Opinion: When I first heard about Okerlund passing away, it actually got to me a bit. He was such an important part of so many moments and careers in wrestling and, as HHH put it, the soundtrack of a generation. The tribute video was incredible and Hogan made it feel personal. He was the only person who should have been there to talk about Okerlund and it worked very well. Okerlund was one of a kind and will be missed.
